Educational & Professional Plans

Hi, currently I have an educational license with me, but also want to opt for a professional plan. Will I lose the educational profile if I start to pay for the professional one?

Hey @Ulfa! Can you clarify a bit more?

Are you trying to upgrade an additional team you have to a pro plan? If that’s the case, you can actually have more than one team with the education plan as long as your student status is verified.

See this page for details: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041061214-Verify-education-status#teams

If I misunderstood, let me know.

I actually want to upgrade another team to a pro plan because now we are dealing with external party who is not student (thus their design seat needs to be a paid version). I am worried if I lose my educational plan file access. Any advise?

Got it! You shouldn’t have a problem upgrading another team to a standard professional one – you won’t lose your student status or access to your student team

Hello, I was wondering whether the student/educational account is same as the professional plan? Does both have the same features? Because I do not see much difference between them. Let me kindly know if you know the differences .

@samira.designworks Yes – with the Education plan, you get all Figma Professional plan features for free, including unlimited teams, projects, files, collaborators, and version history. You can also create design systems with shared libraries.

The only difference between education vs. pro plans are the billing portions – verified qualifying users who can sign up for education plans will get all features of the Figma Pro license at no cost for 2 years.

@ksn Does it really get unlimited teams? I’m under the educational plan now, and am only allowed one.

Hey @Sean_Meiser! The process can be a bit confusing, but you can have as many teams as you want as a verified education user.

Education verification gives you the option to create education teams, but it does not make all teams education teams by default.

You be able to Go to create new team > choose pro > select ‘education team’.

Let me know if you still have trouble with this.

@ksn Hello :wave:t4: Ma’am, I Have Doubts Of “New Figma Ai Update With All Ai & Other Features With Full Access Will Roll Out In/For Figma Educational/Professional Plan?”

hi @Ruchit! Sorry if I’m misunderstanding, but are you asking if these features will be available to everyone with educational/professional teams?

If so, AI features in Figma are available for people with those plans. HOWEVER, it is in beta, and you must sign up for out waitlist. Once you are accepted into the beta, you will then see the new UI and AI features.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

A post was split to a new topic: Figma subscription issue

this worked for me, i selected the education section when i was told to check out and it worked

Hi there. I got an email with a notification with the following:
You have 3 days left on the Education plan
The teams you own will become view-only for all members, and you’ll lose edit access to other teams once your plan expires.

I don’t want to lose my file, so I moved every project to draft, I’d like to know if that would be fine or if I will need to create a new free starter plan and then move my project there. I don’t have a team it’s just me.

Hey @Olasubomi, thanks for reaching out!

When verifying your EDU subscription you had to select a team to upgrade to allow you to access Pro features.

Your EDU plan is associated with “OLASUBOMI WORK”, so as long as you move the projects and files within this team into your drafts, you should be all set!

Hey @dvaliao

Thank you for the clarification. Once all my projects and files are moved into my drafts, I should be able to edit old files and projects and create new ones, even after my EDU subscription has expired

The Figma Educational Plan offers free access to students and educators, providing unlimited Figma files, unlimited version history, and collaboration with unlimited team members. It’s perfect for learning design in a collaborative environment. For professionals, the Professional Plan adds advanced features like team libraries and design system management.

Hi @ksn. Just a quick question, can I get the professional version even if I’m not a student nor educator? I know it may be a silly question, but when I went to view the professional plan, the page was speaking a lot about students and educators. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

@Yale Hey! Not a silly question at all – you can definitely do so. If you clicked the link in one of my previous responses, it would take you directly to our education subscription info page, so I can understand the confusion.

If you look at this specific page, you should see our plans lined up, with professional included. You should be able to hit “select plan” on the Professional column to move forward with upgrading.

An education plan is essentially the same thing as a Professional plan; the only difference is that verified students/educators get Professional Plan features free for 2 years. After 2 years, verification will be required again.

Does this help? Let me know if you have additional questions!
