CMD + 1 currently opens a landing page instead of the first tab that you opened yourself. This is a very frustrating part. As in the browser, everyone is used to having CMD+1 to open their first tab.
For some reason, to open my first tab I have to press CMD+2 in Figma app. Which, I think is a bad experience.
1. Describe the problem your experiencing and how your idea helps solve this
there is some discomfort during jump to specific tab.
In chrome browser, I frequently use the ‘cmd+number’ shorcut. so i could browse each open tab intuitively. but in Figma, which has home tab, the home always occupied as ‘cmd+1’. I always confused by using this shortcut.
I suggest making the home tab shortcut to another (like ‘cmd+`’, closest place to number 1 key), and make this ‘cmd+number’ shortcut to ‘jump to specific tab(not home)’ shortcut like chrome browser.
2. Add as much context as possible (screenshots, Figma files, mockups, etc.)
In case i wanna go to the second open file, i have to use the shortcut ‘cmd+3’. I think this is not much intuitive. i have to calculate the exist home tab.
In my designing process, i always jump to the tab that already open, but i didn’t go home tab that much.
3. Ask questions to bring the community into the conversation
(e.g. Does anyone else experience this? Is anyone using a plugin or workaround to help solve this?, etc. )
There are already similar feedback to making custom shortcut tab, it might be the way to solve my problem.
Nicely said! Exactly, thats the problem, I can’t understand why such a bad experience exist on a tool that focuses on designer audience.
They made it worse recently, when adding icons, visually you see e.g. 3 blue icons, so you tend to press e.g. Cmd+2 to open 2nd tab, while the shortcut is actually cmd+3 :((
