Collaboration Seat Limitations After Upgrade

I recently upgraded from a Starter seat to a Collaboration seat, expecting to gain access to AI features and the ability to share projects with clients.

However, I'm experiencing significant limitations that are affecting my workflow:

  • I cannot use plugins on any projects (both existing and new)
  • I cannot share projects with clients
  • Other essential features are also restricted

These limitations are severely impacting my productivity and ability to gather client feedback. When I encounter these issues, Figma displays a pop-up suggesting I upgrade to a full seat. I wasn't expecting the Collaboration seat to have more restrictions than the Starter plan.

I previously contacted support via email, but the response I received didn't clarify the situation or resolve the problem. Could you please help me understand:

  1. Why the Collaboration seat has these limitations
  2. What options are available to restore the functionality I need
  3. Whether there was a misunderstanding about what features are included

I appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter.

Hey!

I´ve experienced the same in my Figma. My friend has a starter account and the plugins and other features works well. I am getting really disappointed because I have collab seat and paid already for a year. I really don´t know what is behind this but it is certainly a big limitation for my work. I really hope they will do something about it.

I completely understand how this has impacted your workflow, so please allow me to clarify seat types. 

Collab seats have:

  • Full access to Figma Slides and FigJam.
  • View and comment access in Figma Design files.
  • No access to Dev Mode; basic inspection only.
  • Does not include access to design mode in Figma Slides.
  • AI features in certain products like FigJam, but not in Figma Design.

Full seats have:

  • Full access to all Figma products, including Figma Design, Figma Make, Dev Mode, Figma Draw,  Figma Slides, and FigJam.
  • Full access to the full suite of AI features across Figma Design, FigJam, and other products. This seat type gets the highest number of monthly AI credits.


You need a full seat to have full access to the AI features across Figma Design, FigJam, etc. Also, in order to share projects for your Figma Design files, you need a full seat in order to share the access to your projects. Hope this helps explain!
